When the tornado struck Oak Grove on Friday, August 24, 2007, the Chapter’s Disaster Action Team (DAT) responded immediately.
The Chapter’s Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) loaded with supplies and a team of volunteers headed to the scene. Working throughout the evening chapter volunteers and staff assisted those who were so greatly affected providing for immediate needs, such as food, clothing and shelter. Perhaps even more importantly providing comfort care as so many people just needed a hug and someone to talk to.
Assisted by the Washtenaw County Chapter, three Red Cross teams returned on Saturday, September 25th where they spent the day providing emotional support, food and water, and comfort kits to over 200 people and ensuring that those affected were taken care of.
The Chapter’s mental health team continued to provide support through the following week as the reality of the loss struck home.
The Chapter would like to thank all of our donors who make it possible for us to support our community. |
